You know you should do it...all the powerful Christians do, don’t they? And they see results too, don’t they? 3 days, 10 days... like, super-holy, right? But that yummy food is calling me...well get this:
‘If you’re fasting to ‘move’ God, you’re on a hunger strike. 😆. Fasting doesn’t move God. Fasting moves you - God isn’t stuck. It sensitises you to Him’.
(Ashley Terradez).
So the next time you broach the idea of fasting and your heart sinks at what the prospect of what you’re ‘missing out’ on, change the focus, because that’s not the truth. As long as you are focused on God’s Word, You’re actually gaining. Exchange this lie of ‘missing out’ with the idea of gaining, through great Word-rich music, podcasts, etc. For once, you’re taking control of all of your body’s wants and desires, and feeding your spirit instead. Do you know how this plays out?
If you struggle with loneliness, God will show you how to forge great new friendships, where you can help each other, build each other up and enjoy God in a more tangible way, as we often experience God through people. Proverbs 18:24.
If you struggle in any mental capacity, you’ll begin to have your mind renewed by God’s Word - Romans 12:2 - exchanging unhealthy thought patterns with healthy ones over time, like applying medicine. Where your thoughts go, so do you. Prov 23:7.
If you struggle to receive physical healing in your body, the Holy Spirit will teach you how, by revelation of God’s deep love for you - why on earth would He want you to remain sick? 3 John 1:2.
If you are constantly running out of money before the month has ended and debt is increasing, you’ll begin to receive ideas that you would never have thought of before, to extend your finances and deliver you from debt. And God doesn’t promise ‘just enough to scrape by’. He promises abundance - Ephesians 3:20. And He won’t allow you to become greedy - getting more, more, more is a wrong motive. He’ll show you how to tune your heart in with His. Psalm 37:4.
All this because you shut down the ‘noisy’ clamours of your body screaming ‘feed me’!
Don’t get me wrong, fasting’s not a quick fix - the benefits increase with regularity - but here is a chance to stop stressing about it and to learn to chill out with God. ( I’m on my phone, lying in bed as I draft this - and yes, I’m fasting! 😆)
So go ahead, and begin a new approach to fasting today. And don’t be intimidated by the way others do it! Just try half days for now. It will produce great results!

I love that you came from the angle of how fasting actually benefits us - as opposed to focusing on the food we’re missing out on
ReplyDeleteIts interesting how fasting doesn't actually move God. A lot of people really believe that it does
